Those Words and Pictures

I DISCOVERED MAIRA KALMAN'S WORK THROUGH HER BLOG, AND THE PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS, ON THE NY TIMES SITE. One brilliantly written and illustrated entry after another, the style is delightful despite the weightier topics.

Googling her name, I find that Maira is author and artist to a much larger scope: from quaint children's books to contemporary home decor, fashion magazine editorial and theatrical set design.

She is also responsible for the iconic The New Yorker magazine cover The Newyorkistan which has been ranked #14 on the American Society of Magazine Editors' top 40 magazine covers of the past 40 years.
