AS IT IS THANKSGIVING TODAY in parts of the world that celebrate it, I extend my gratitude to the great John Merrifield, who yesterday had come to our office to do a private talk for us, one that I've already attended back in Spikes, but was a welcome refresher anyway on why this is a great business for doing good things in.
Amidst snippets from Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom and a preview of some of today's most groundbreaking campaigns, John also featured in his presentation, the late Paul Arden, former Creative Director for Saatchi and Saatchi and author of God Explained in a Taxi Ride, Whatever you Think Think the Opposite and It's Not How Good You Are, It's How Good You Want to Be.
I have the one above, one of my prized books ever, given to me by my first ever Creative Director back at my first ever job. It's a very short, not very text-heavy book and going through it again reveals that it continues to be relevant, no matter how many times you've read it.
Indeed, we are only as creative as we aspire to be.
Thank you Paul Arden for writing the book. Thank you Dino Jalandoni for giving me the book. Thank you John Merrifield for reminding me that I had the book.
And thank you Adobo Magazine for ranking me as #28 of the Philippines' top Creative Directors! Even if I'm not, FYI, a Creative Director. At least not yet.
Well that's one thing to aspire for.
Happy Thanksgiving!
It's Not How Good You Are, It's How Good You Want to Be. by Paul Arden.
