HAVING GIVEN US THE MOST MAGNIFICENT Cleopatra there ever was and having been born with the most envy-inducing double-row-eyelash "mutation", not to mention all the jewelry we could only ever dream of, Elizabeth Taylor will forever be to us, a paragon of glamor. A queen. A star.
Rest in peace.

R.I.P. is an abbreviation for the latin phrase "requiescat in pace", not rest in peace.
Hi anonymous!
RIP originally stood for "requiescat in pace" but "rest in peace" is an English idiomatic expression also abbreviated as RIP:
"Rest in peace" (Latin: Requiescat in pace) is a short epitaph or idiomatic expression wishing eternal rest and peace to someone who has died. The expression typically appears on headstones, often abbreviated as "RIP". The backronym "rest in paradise" is also common as a variation.
Wikipedia: R.I.P. is an abbreviation for requiescat in pace ("may he rest in peace", often, though somewhat inaccurately, translated as rest in peace), a short epitaph or idiom used to express wishes of eternal rest and peace for a person that has died.
Thanks for this though my source is also Wikipedia:

The link offers a lengthier explanation.
Anonymous, if my having used the expression irks you, then I apologize. It was not my intention.
Peace :-)
