YOU TOOK YOUR COAT OFF, AND STOOD IN THE RAIN. Not a lot of my high school friends appreciated Jewel's poetically pained groaning like I did but being the moody, melancholic girl that I was, I soaked up in her sorrow like a Kleenex soaks up tears.
It was that first album, raw and powerful and naive all at once, that presented Jewel at her very best. From the courageous and insightful "Pieces of You", to the terribly depressing "Adrian", to my all-time-favorite, "Foolish Games", I never quite stopped indulging in them.
Especially not on rainy days like these. Let the woeful sounds emerge!
Foolish Games, 1997. Directed by Matthew Rolston.
